Coquito Recipe

Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican cocktail that’s typically served around the holidays. It’s made with a blend of condensed milk, evaporated milk, coconut milk, coconut cream, white rum, and spices. The result is a creamy, tropical drink that’s sure to warm you up on a cold winter night.

Key Ingredients

  • Condensed milk: This is the base of our Coquito, and it’s what gives it that rich, creamy texture. It’s also where most of the sweetness comes from, so if you’re looking to cut down on sugar, this might not be the drink for you.
  • Evaporated milk: This is another key ingredient that adds to the creaminess of the Coquito. It also helps to balance out the sweetness of the condensed milk.
  • Coconut milk and cream: These two ingredients are what give the Coquito its distinct tropical flavor. Make sure to use a good quality coconut milk and cream for the best results.

How to Make Coquito

  1. Start by opening your can of condensed milk and pouring it into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Next, open your can of evaporated milk and add it to the bowl.
  3. Using a can opener, open your can of coconut milk and add about half a can (or one cup) to the bowl.
  4. Open your can of coconut cream and add about eight ounces to the bowl.
  5. Now it’s time to add the star ingredient: white rum. We recommend using white rum over aged rum because it has a more neutral flavor that won’t overpower the other ingredients. Add one cup of rum to the bowl.
  6. Add a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon, a teaspoon of vanilla, and a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg to the bowl.
  7. Using a whisk, mix all the ingredients together until they’re well combined.
  8. Taste the mixture and adjust the ingredients as needed. If you want it sweeter, add more condensed milk. If you want it stronger, add more rum.
  9. Once you’re happy with the taste, pour the mixture into a bottle or jar and refrigerate it for at least two hours. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the Coquito to thicken up.

Storage Information

Coquito can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Make sure to give it a good shake or stir before serving, as the ingredients may separate over time.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you want to make a non-alcoholic version of Coquito, simply leave out the rum. You can add a little extra coconut milk or cream to make up for the lost liquid.
  • For a fun twist, try adding a splash of bourbon or brandy to your Coquito. It will give it a rich, complex flavor that’s sure to impress your guests.
  • If you want to make a big batch of Coquito for a party, consider doubling or tripling the recipe. Just make sure you have enough bottles or jars to store it all!
